How to Have Uncomfortable Conversations

A month ago I had the privilege of hanging out with my good friend Nathan Webster over at Mr. Social Entrepreneur. Our topic of discussion was a follow up to my blog post earlier this yer about difficult conversations. It is a topic that is near and dear to my heart because I know first hand the value of those conversations to our growth and transformation.

Since I recorded that talk with Nathan I’ve had several opportunities for difficult conversations with individuals in my own life. Some have gone well, some not so well. In both situations I found myself reflecting on my part in the outcome:

  • Was I teachable?
  • Did I check my motives?
  • Did I choose to respond instead of react to their emotions?

Whether the talks went well, or not-so-well, it was an opportunity for me to grow.

Listen in below and your thoughts! I’d love to know what you think. What’s been your experience with a difficult conversation? How did you overcome?
